At one time or another we have all had that friend who has posted something that doesn’t quite seem like them. The post lacks authenticity. It leaves us scratching our heads and asking what are the consequences of being less authentic online?
That question was recently posed by a group of researchers who examined the relationship between people’s Facebook identity and their social network. Results showed that the better someone was able to represent their true self online the more likely they felt connected to their friends and experienced less stress.
In sum, it looks like being authentic online is better for you.
