The Academy Awards are a night of sparkly dresses and bow ties. Of course, it is also a night of speeches. Laced with heartfelt thanks, laughs, and tears these speeches reveal the human side of the winner. And, perhaps even a little more. Researchers studied over 220 speeches given by best actor and best director winners. It was also revealed in a post hoc analysis the more unexpected the win, the more the winner’s speech contained positive emotion compared to speeches of expected winners.
